Today’s showcase: the Polish intoxication and the Moldovan disenchantment
It was a paradise evening in Eden, where the Czech team dusted the Poles, but the fight on the potato field in Kishinev was very disappointing. Football offers both positions sometimes in quick succession. In Moldova, the Czech nation discovered a compatriot of whom it can be proud – the falcon Josef Seidl. Martin Fillo does not have a team. France shot too, the Dutch took it.

Two quick strikes
The lovers of statistics and historians had a hard time to find when the national team had such a good start. Two actions, two precise hits. After three minutes. And the match was almost over. Almost, Poland hadn’t died yet, but they couldn’t turn the match blue.
It was a heady evening in Eden, Prague, which caressed the soul, body and other parts of the body. Football at the national level can (sometimes) make you happy.
A barren potato patch
Mundane – football – glory, field grass. Well, if grass, but a potato field that, according to the experts, was more equivalent to a B-class village field than the main stadium of the Republic of Moldova in Chisinau. There was nothing to show for it, it didn’t even produce any crops.
But no excuses. Should have won, missed out on two points that may be missed. But that’s the way it goes in football – after a throw-in, your stomach hurts, even though no bite was added to the goal stomach.
Proud Czech Falcon
And yet, Czech football scored just one success of which it can be proud. The day before the match, a commemorative plaque was unveiled to Josef Seidl, a native of Jirkov who is hailed as the founder of Moldovan football.
Josef Seidl is one of the remarkable and yet today almost unknown figures from the history of Czech (Slovak)-Moldovan relations who deserve to be remembered:: says the Foreign Ministry’s documents for familiarising oneself with this person.
The proud falcon was awarded the French War Cross and the Czechoslovak War Cross for his service on the Western Front in the Great War.
The Czech representatives deserve no honour for their performance and dismal record.
Filo out of the squad
Two incomprehensible fouls, two quick reds and experienced midfielder Martin Fillo is without a commitment. Well, without a team, the management of the Zlín club relegated him to the B team. Whether it is possible to cancel his contract as well, however, is a bit tricky.
The fact that he picks someone up on the pitch, even if it is a clear violation of the rules, expulsion and weakening of the team, is not a reason to terminate the contract. He can be transferred to another job. For example, a psychologist, he’s gained enough experience to do that.
The tulips have faded
It was not only the Czech fans who experienced feelings of frustration. Even more upset were the supporters of the Dutch team, who lost 0:4 to the world champions France at their national stadium in St. Denis.
“A great evening,” praised coach Didier Dechamps. And after the throws, his Roosters managed another match in Ireland.
