Tipsport Malta Cup: Olomouc won the tournament, will go again next year
Just two rounds and the Tipsport Malta Cup winter tournament already knows the winner. The Czech representative Sigma Olomouc defeated Danish Aalborg 3:0 in the opening match, and in the second encounter with Spartak Trnava managed to turn around a two-goal lead and won 3:2
Coach Václav Jílek is not looking that far ahead. “For me it is more important that we managed to turn around a two-goal deficit. That is the most valuable thing,” he said after the match. “We got two unnecessary goals after our stupid mistakes, we have to learn from that,” he knows what to focus on.
Midfielder Ondrej Zmrzlý scored the winner from a direct kick. “I’m glad I did that,” he said of his accurate shot. “It didn’t fall in at training, Pablo (González) even told me not to go for it at all. And it worked,” he says, not hiding his joy at the successful shot.
Coach Jílek cannot praise his stay in Malta. “All the teams that go for warmth expect quality terrain and quality weather conditions, which we found absolutely magnificent here,” he gloats.
However, he also finds flaws. “There are a bit longer commutes, which is always annoying, the team loses time on that journey,” he points out.
But the pros clearly outweigh them. “The training surfaces, even in the main stadium, are in excellent condition and the twenty minutes it takes to get to the pitch is manageable,” he says, aware of the priorities. ” Even the hotel conditions are adequate for our requirements, so we are satisfied,” he concludes.
Sigma Olomouc will fly to Malta again next year.
