Tipsport Malta Cup: I need to score as soon as possible, says Matěj Pulkrab
Former youth player Matěj Pulkrab made his first appearance in his new engagement in the German second league team SV Sandhausen in the Tipsport Malta Cup against Spartak Trnava, starting in the second half. His team won comfortably 3:0.
How satisfied are you with your debut?
The pitch was very hard, muddy, so there were a lot of fights. The ball was bouncing off the foot, so there were a lot of mistakes.
Trnava pressed at the beginning, they caught us a bit by surprise. However, when we went to a numerical superiority after one opponent was sent off, everything was clear.
You had an excellent chance, but you didn’t convert it. Would the first goal in your new team have helped you mentally?
No doubt. I got the ball I needed, but I should have been there sooner. And also to deal with the situation better. I missed the goal by inches.
It’s nice for us to be able to prepare on natural grass and in the warmth in winter. It was a bit windy and rainy on the first day, but it’s nice now.
The grass at the Tony Bezzina stadium is not in the best condition, but the grass at the main Ta’Qali and on the side fields is perfect. Plus we have three tough games here, so that’s ideal.
In the last game of the group, you will face Zlín. Do you have a deeper relationship with any of the players?
With Lukas Bartosak. We were at Zdenek Folprecht’s wedding in the summer, now we’ll meet on the pitch.
When you were looking for a new job, did Zlín contact you?
Not Zlín.
