The Bundesliga is watching a spectacular battle for the title. Bayern Munich have a big rival this season. Since the beginning of the current season, Bayer Leverkusen, who have not lost and are still in the lead, are shining. The two teams will face each other next weekend. However, the Bavarian giant will be considerably weakened.

Both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen managed their Saturday matches and the situation at the top of the table remains extremely even. After 20 rounds, Leverkusen are in the lead with 52 points, Bayern have 50 points.

These are the teams with the best defence and the best attack. Stuttgart, surprisingly third, is an abysmal 10 points behind the current best German teams.

It is worth mentioning that Leverkusen has not yet known the bitterness of defeat in the league. They lost points only because of four draws. One of them was against Bayern in September. The match in Munich ended in a 2-2 draw.

The situation is extremely even. Every other match can be decisive. However, given the form of both teams, it is expected that the second meeting of the season could be decisive. This will take place next weekend, on Saturday 10 February.

Bayern will travel to Leverkusen with a clear objective. To win, to get back in front and to go for another title. But it won’t be easy. If only because they’ll be weakened.

Leverkusen with the advantage, Bayern plagued by injuries

Bayer Leverkusen managed to win their match at Darmstadt on Saturday 2-0. Bayern Munich took on their toughest opponent in recent years and beat Mönchengladbach 3: 1.

Both teams are therefore in good shape and in good form ahead of the Bundesliga showpiece, but they have to deal with unpleasant complications in Bavaria. Against Borussia, one of their key players, Alphonso Davies, was injured.

According to the available information, the Canadian left back has injured ligaments in his left knee and should certainly not be able to play against Bayer. To make matters worse, coach Thomas Tuchel already has to fight an uphill battle without two other mainstays.

Due to injuries, Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano, who, when healthy, are among the stable and indispensable members of the starting line-up, are not playing.

Bayern will therefore have to rely on the excellent form of Harry Kane, who has been performing superbly in his first season in Germany. He currently has 24 league goals to his name, equalling the 17-year-old record of Luka Toni, who then enjoyed an exceptional debut season in the Munich giant’s jersey.

Now the Englishman is aiming for another milestone. He can break Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in the 2020/21 season.
