Three Chelsea players have been asked to leave the club! Who are they?
During his time at Stamford Bridge, coach Thomas Tuchel has created a squad with a really high quality and a drive to win more trophies. However, not all members of the squad possess sufficient qualities in his eyes. Whose team number hasn’t worked out already?
During his time at Stamford Bridge, coach Thomas Tuchel has created a squad with a really high quality and a drive to win more trophies. However, not all members of the squad possess sufficient qualities in his eyes. Whose team number hasn’t worked out already?
According to The Athletic, three players have been told to start looking for a new club. A trio of midfielders Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley are unlikely to have a very bright future at the Blues.
Furthermore, the players have officially been stripped of their team numbers and it is only a matter of time before they leave the bowels of Stamford Bridge. Neither of those named have been able to gain a stable position in the starting eleven since their arrival and therefore they are not enough of a mainstay in the team according to coach Tuchel.
The German strategist told the players after pre-season training that he will no longer count on them for the next season. Chelsea paid over £90 million for the midfield trio.
Both Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Barkley have tried to kick-start their careers back on loan, but it hasn’t borne much fruit. Moreover, the aforementioned trio are paid very fat fees and it will be very difficult for the club to get rid of them.
Also close to leaving is striker Tammy Abraham, who couldn’t find enough shooting form under Tuchel and will most likely head to AS Roma in Italy. Chelsea are expected to cash in €45 million for the striker.
Due to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, clubs across Europe are in rather dire financial straits. So even the London Blues would like to take some time away from high-paid players.
Their departure is aided by the arrival of striker Romelu Lukaku. The former Inter Milan player was definitely not a cheap deal and so Chelsea need to make a bit more room financially.
There are still two weeks left in the transfer window, plenty of time. It will be interesting to see if the trio of midfielders really do get a new opportunity to grow their careers, or if their woes at Stamford Bridge will continue.
