Martin Frýdek is in his third season in the Swiss top flight, having moved from Sparta Prague to Lucerne in 2020. But he waited an unusually long time for his first goal. But he got it this weekend.
Martin Frýdek used to be an important player for Sparta Prague a few years ago. He played with the captain’s armband and his presence was always felt on the pitch. Whether because of his emphasis or his playing qualities.
In 2020, he finally got the opportunity to move on in his career and took advantage of an offer from Switzerland. After not renewing his contract with Sparta, he signed for Lucerne, where the seven-time national team player still plays today.
He is now in his third season in the Swiss top league and when he is not troubled by health problems, he is a regular in the starting line-up and one of the cornerstones of the selected eleven.
And that’s despite the fact that he doesn’t have great numbers. For example, Frýdek scored 10 goals and 19 assists in 147 competitive games for Sparta, while in Liberec he has 6 goals and 13 assists in 91 games.
In Lucerne, Frýdek waited a long time for a goal. He collected 8 assists in 84 games. And now, in his third season, or rather in the second half of it, he scored against St. Gallen. And he probably couldn’t have scored better.
After a short corner kick, he headed the ball into the middle and sent a shot from outside the box to the back post. In short, a very good moment of football. The goal brought the game to 1-1 and the match ended 2-2.
Luzern are now in 5th place in the Swiss league after 21 rounds. It is worth mentioning that they are almost 20 points behind the first place, only 6 points behind the second place.
And what about Frýdek’s future? He is under contract in Switzerland until the summer of 2024 and it can be expected that the 30-year-old footballer will receive a new offer. Moreover, he is happy in the team according to his own words.
