A few days ago, Napoli released a video on TikTok that many fans and other people involved in Italian football thought was mocking. The video, as you all probably already know, was about Victor Osimhen. Now the Nigerian Minister of Sports, John Owan Enoh, has also reacted to the matter.
Napoli only drew 0-0 in Sunday’s Serie A fifth round match at Bologna. However, apart from the result, the main issue discussed after the match was the video released by Napoli’s official account on the social network TikTok.
We have already reported in more detail on this topic in a previous article. Anyway, the short version was that Victor Osimhen missed a penalty kick in the 72nd minute of the match, which he had earned from referee Ayroldi after a handball by Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.
And this situation was the content of the video published by Napoli on TikTok. The Italian club understandably upset not only their player but also those around him. It should be noted, Osimhen subsequently deleted all content related to the club from his Instagram account.
The video also displeased the Nigerian striker’s agent. Roberto Calenda even threatened the reigning Serie A champion with legal action against him. But according to new reports, this will not happen.
However, the case is not over. The content published on TikTok has also touched the Nigerian Sports Minister, who has issued a statement in relation to the video below.
The case is escalating…
John Owan Enoh shared his views on the matter via a press release on Friday. Through that, he mentioned among other things that he will protect Nigerian athletes from “unfair ridicule and discrimination”.
“My office is working hard to liaise with Osimhen first hand to understand where the issues lie and to get the facts clearly. I am also in contact with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy,” reads an official statement from the Nigerian Sports Minister, quoted by Football Italia.
“We are using diplomatic channels to look into the matter. We are determined to ensure that our athletes receive the respect they deserve and are not subjected to injustice, discrimination and unfair ridicule that could damage their careers,” writes Owan Enoh.
Although Napoli has already issued an official statement on the matter, saying that the video was certainly not meant to ridicule Osimhen, but so far the Italian outfit has not apologised to its player.
