This must never happen again! Djokovic calls for revolutionary change in tennis

The eight-final match at the Masters in Cincinnati between British Draper and Canadian Auger-Aliassime made tennis history. In the wake of the aforementioned duel, many white sports fans are calling for a better resolution of the controversy. Novak Djokovic has now joined in with a similar opinion.

Although both Jack Draper and Félix Auger-Aliassime are among the wider world’s top players and both are also very promising players, they certainly didn’t anticipate how much their match would be dissected. But it did.

The British tennis player got to serve in the deciding set to advance to the quarterfinals. And in that game, he worked out two match points.

He didn’t take the first one, but he did the next. However, he would not be able to celebrate his progress until a few minutes later.

Draper played the last ball of the match in a very questionable way and his Canadian opponent could not believe for a long time that the umpire did not notice any problem. But the Canadian’s astonishment did not change the result. The Briton advanced.

More than one sports fan in this situation thought whether it would not be faster and, more importantly, fairer to use the video recording of the whole situation. Now Novak Djokovic is also calling for this option to be introduced.

Djokovic and his arguments

According to the recent Olympic champion, the lack of the possibility to use video in controversial moments is a big problem. It is nonsense that the viewers at home in front of the TV know more about the situation than the players or the referees themselves.

It’s nice to stick to tradition, but we live in the 21st century. Djokovic reminds us that players can use the hawk’s eye to decide on disputed balls.

The inability to judge situations like Draper’s match ball objectively is all the more striking. “Let’s make sure that this kind of nonsense can never happen again,” the legendary Serb adds .
