Manchester United travelled to the north of England on Monday as favourites, but returned home from Newcastle with only one point, which they can still be happy about. Goalkeeper David De Gea contributed with a great performance.
David De Gea used to be regularly mentioned as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the relatively recent past, but in recent seasons he hasn’t done so well and has often been criticised.
This season, however, he is once again one of the better goalkeepers in the Premier League, which he confirmed with his performance at Newcastle on Monday.
It was the performance of the Spanish goalkeeper that prevented the home Magpies from gaining a fully deserved three points. Newcastle were the better side, creating several interesting chances.
De Gea got the only goal of the game, which he was not entitled to. Allan Saint-Maximin fired over in the seventh minute. But after that he was a wall and made at least two fascinating saves.
In the second half, Saint-Maximin could have scored a second time, but De Gea showed fantastic reflexes and fortunately for Manchester United he was able to parry the shot.
He was also very effective and efficient with a shot from Miguel Almirón, whose attempt went straight into the top right corner of the Spaniard’s goal. In short, a beautiful spectacle.
Manchester United drew 1-1 with Newcastle.
