Fans were expecting a big and exciting finale. But instead, they saw a complete thrashing of the top two seeds by young Carlos Alcaraz. However, German tennis player Alexander Zverev does not blame himself, but the ATP and the tournament organisers.

There was no dramatic duel. The third best player in the world, the German Zverev, in the final of the ATP Masters Madrid 1000 tournament clearly succumbed to the Spanish rising star Carlos Alcaraz 3::6 and 1::6, in the final result 0::2 in sets.

With this victory, Alcaraz also moved to the top of the ATP Tour’s ranking of matches won this season. He currently has 28 wins to his credit, with Stefanos Tsitsipas in second place with 27 wins, and Andrey Rublev in third place, who has collected 25 wins so far.

In any case, Zverev blames the ATP and the tournament organisers for his loss in the final. The world number three didn’t like the timing of the matches.

He played his semi-final match against Greece’s Tsitsipas practically at midnight from Saturday to Sunday. Moreover, he also played the quarter-final against Felix Auger-Aliassime at night.

“Carlos played great, there is no doubt about it. But one thing I have to say here is that the job the ATP did here is a total disgrace. Two days ago I got to bed at 4:30, yesterday at 5:20, ” Zverev fumed at the press conference.

“If a normal person went to bed at 4:30 and then after 5:00 in the morning, he would have a problem getting out of bed. And I was going to play the final with Alcaraz, who for me is the best player in the world right now. That’s a very difficult task,” explained Zverev.

The German tennis player also added that he was very tired on the court and because of that he was also angry. According to his words, he had no coordination on his serve and not even on his baseline shots.

“To be honest, I’m sorry about the final. It could have been a great match. But I had no chance to show my level. And this happens on a weekly basis,” he concluded.
