Thierry Henry is a legend of French football, so his opinions and statements can have a big influence and impact. Now, in an interview on Amazon, he has spoken briefly about the Kylian Mbappé situation.
The PSG gem has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with the club doing their best to keep him. However, the offensive star is out of contract next summer and is at risk of leaving for free.
Fans understandably don’t like this and are giving Mbappe a hard time. They boo him when his name is announced when the PSG line-up is announced, in addition to making their opinions known on social media.
After all, Mbappé’s end at PSG would once again weaken the reputation of the whole Ligue 1, even though stars like Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Gialnuigi Donnarumma have joined PSG. It would simply not be the best thing for French football.
However, the legendary Henry is not panicking, quite the opposite. He sees everything objectively and praises Mbappé’s approach: “He’s still training, he doesn’t cause problems. He behaves like a professional. Moreover, he scores goals, he plays like he knows how. He honours his contract and does nothing wrong.”
According to the former Monaco, Arsenal and Barcelona player, the media and fans look for any little thing that could be negative in exceptional players.
“I myself hope Kylian stays at PSG and shows his quality. We’ll see what the future brings. But he certainly doesn’t lack respect for the club, he is playing very well,” Henry added.
In the current season, Mbappé has featured in all three of PSG’s competitive matches, scoring one goal and two assists.
According to the latest reports, which appeared not only in the French media, the 22-year-old speedster was supposed to reject a six-year contract and is on his way to Real Madrid.
