They’re asking for a big transfer: Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons’ star was already fading and many people were already writing him off and taking it for granted that he would not fulfil his potential, having failed to make it at all in PSG’s hyped squad.
Xavi Simons’ star was already fading and many people were already writing him off and taking it for granted that he would not fulfil his potential, having failed to make it at all in PSG’s hyped-up squad. Not that it’s anything easy when you’re an offensive minded footballer and have Messi, Neymar and Mbappe in your team.
But the Barcelona of Catalonia alumni is still only nineteen years old. Yet it may seem like he’s had the status of football’s next megastar for a hell of a long time. After all, thanks to social media, Simons’ star has already shot to the fore around the age of thirteen, and the young whizz-kid has been under enormous pressure from an early age.
Barça had high hopes for him, not least because of his good experience with the first name Xavi. However, the hairy midfielder threw them a pitchfork when he heard the lure from France in the summer of 2019 and moved to PSG, where the payment terms of his contract were more to his liking.
However, he played in just eleven competitive games in PSG colours. After three years in the golden French cage, he decided that even the fabulous salary wasn’t worth sitting on the bench with more minutes in sight and so he moved to PSV Eindhoven as a free agent.
In his home country, in biathlon parlance, Xavi started to enjoy it and in just the current Eredivisie season so far, he has racked up 8 goals and 4 assists in 15 games, which earned him a place in the Netherlands national team at the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar.
However, Xavi has not only been helped by the move from France to the Netherlands, but also and perhaps even more so by the move from central midfielder to the position of sub, sometimes a false nine. He was thus given the opportunity to devote himself almost exclusively to offensive duties, something he clearly lacked in happiness.
Together with his colleague Gakpe, who left a few days ago, they took care of most of PSV’s goal scoring and pulled the Phillips Stadion club to third place in the current Eredivisie season just three points behind leaders Feynoord.
The skilful offensive footballer has logically caught the attention of all the leading European clubs, led by English giants Arsenal and Liverpool. Even his former employer at Princes Park is keeping a close eye on the Simons situation.
