They couldn’t afford Messi, but they could afford Neymar? Barcelona wanted to bring in Neymar in the summer, according to the president

Barcelona are not in a good financial shape, yet according to their president they tried to bring Neymar. And this was in the same transfer period in which Messi had to leave Barcelona.

Even though no money could be found for Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, the club’s management looked for another expensive reinforcement. According to Laporta’s president, they tried to bring Neymar to the club.

Neymar was supposed to be a replacement for Messi. For a while it looked like the transfer might actually happen.

“They told me that Neymar would not stay, but in the end they convinced him. He didn’t cheat me. This is football where the highest bid always wins,” Laporta told Spanish magazine Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish media, however, do not give much credence to Laporta’s words. According to them, the Barcelona president is trying to convince the fans that he is trying to do something about the club.

But the truth is that Barcelona cannot afford Neymar in any case.

And it is not very believable that Neymar would even consider leaving Barcelona. He doesn’t miss anything at PSG, he’s surrounded by star teammates. Barcelona’s squad, on the other hand, lacks a star player, which is also reflected in their performance and results.
