The young Dutch midfielder has been in very good form since his transfer to PSV. He is a key figure and the club’s management is currently trying to do everything possible to keep the footballer from returning to PSG.
Xavi Simons is a product of the world famous La Masia football academy. He is a product of Barcelona, with whom he ended his cooperation very soon.
His agent at the time, Mino Raiola, had superior conditions for his client and for himself, which Barcelona did not want to meet due to the young age of the footballer. Simons therefore signed for a club that had no problem meeting his financial demands.
In 2019, he expanded the ranks of the PSG youth team. Over time, it seemed as if the young footballer was falling into oblivion. He wasn’t getting a place in the first team and other players of the same age were already running around the football pitches and were being talked about considerably more.
Transfer to PSV
He was given a rescuing hand by a Dutch club led by legendary striker Ruud van Nisterlooy.
Originally, it was only supposed to be a one-year loan deal. PSV eventually decided that they were not interested in a guest appearance. So the French club terminated Simons’ contract and the footballer moved completely for free.
PSG, however, kept a clause in their contract that entitles them to bring the youngster back in the summer transfer window for €12 million.
Xavi Simons is having a very successful season. He has become an important part of PSV’s starting line-up and has already started 28 games during the current season, scoring 11 goals and making 4 more. According to Whoscored, he has an average league rating of 7.51 and Europa League rating of 7.18.
It is no wonder then that PSG may be about to bring the player back. PSV will try their best to prevent that. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club has started talks with the player about a new contract and, above all, the removal of the aforementioned clause.
“We are at an advanced stage of contract extension negotiations. We see him as a key player and a building block for the future of the club,” said Ruud van Nisterlooy.
