There are more applicants for Vaclik’s services. Will the national goalkeeper head to the second English league?

Thirty-three-year-old Tomas Vaclik joined Olympiakos Piraeus at the beginning of the year, but was given permission to leave the club. The first to sign Vaclik was Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, who preferred Matthew Ryan. And now English second division side Huddersfield Town are interested in Vaclik. Will Vaclik fight to stay in the English League Championship or will he wait for a more interesting offer?

At the end of this season, the national team’s contract expires at Olympiakos Piraeus. The management of the Greek club has announced to its ward that it is no longer counting on him in the future and he can look for a new engagement.

Vaclik headed to Greece in the summer of 2021 as a free agent after the end of his contract at Spanish side Sevilla. In that time he managed to play 57 competitive matches. Last season he helped Olympiakos to win the championship title.

However, Vaclik will not remember this season fondly. First, he had to endure elimination from the Champions League preliminary round, where the Greek giant was knocked out by Israel’s Maccabi Haifa.

And another blow came at the national team meeting in September, when the Czech national team faced Switzerland. The 33-year-old goalkeeper injured his shoulder in that match, which required surgery.

The experienced goalkeeper was out for the rest of the autumn and only at the beginning of the new year did he slowly start preparing with his teammates in Greece. However, the Olympiakos management told him that they are no longer counting on him.

However, the former Sparta goalkeeper does not have to be sad, as the first interested parties are now applying for his services. At first, Dutch side Alkmaar tried to acquire Vaclik’s services, but no deal was reached. According to the Dutch media, the goalkeeper did not pass a medical examination, which was refuted by Michael Marek from the X production agency.

Instead of Vaclik, the Dutch team brought another experienced goalkeeper Matthew Ryan, who has previously played for Brighton and Arsenal. And the other bidder for Vaclik is a bit surprising.

The former Basel player is being courted by English second division side Huddersfield, who will be fighting for relegation in the spring transfer window. The English team is facing an injury to their current number one goalkeeper Lee Nicholls.

According to British journalist Alan Nixon, the club’s priority is to bring in an adequate replacement for the injured Nicholls to help the club stay in the League Championship.

Huddersfield’s management have already contacted Olympiakos about Vaclik and are looking into what terms they could bring in the Czech goalkeeper. At the same time, it will also depend on Vaclik himself whether he is willing to leave only for the second league.
