This weekend’s UFC 282 event offered many interesting stories. For example, the battle for Jiri Prochazka’s vacant welterweight title between Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz, which ended in a draw.
Certainly Paddy Pimblett’s highly controversial win, which many are calling one of the biggest steals in history, would also be worth mentioning. However, there was another spectacular story being written in the last prelims card match.
It was the UFC debut of young Raul Rosas Jr. who, by the way, only celebrated his 18th birthday in October. However, he earned his contract with the organization at the age of 17, having successfully made it through Dana White’s Contender Series.
During his first fight in the UFC, Rosas faced an opponent 11 years his senior, that being Jay Perrin. The California native showed no signs of fear or over-respect prior to the fight, not afraid to poke Perrin with a mild trash talk.
Then when it came to the fight, there was nothing to worry about. Rosas quickly showed his qualities and about halfway through the first round it was all over when he tightened his opponent up for a rear-naked choke. Understandably, he asked for a bonus for his performance of the night.
Unsurprisingly, Rosas doesn’t have his driver’s license yet. That’s why he has clear plans for what he’s going to do with the bonus. “I need the $50,000 so I can buy my mother a minivan and so she has something to drive me to the UFC Performance Institute,” talkSPORT quotes him as saying.
“It’s crazy. I knew I was going to get here. I’m living the dream right now. I didn’t even have the nerves, I didn’t feel the pressure. I felt free and I was doing what I enjoy. This fight was just the beginning because I’m going for the belt,” he added.
Currently, Rosas boasts a sensational 7-0 record.
