The Swiss were able to boast a relatively easy 3:0 win against Great Britain on Thursday. Thanks to two more assists, a defenseman whose play is a real joy to watch took the lead in scoring. And what do the Brits have to say?
After two nerve-wracking battles against the Czech Republic and Austria, the Swiss enjoyed a quieter evening against Great Britain. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first period, they had no trouble keeping the hard-working Brits at bay and notching up their fourth straight win in Prague.
“We played really well in the first period. In the second period, the Brits got up to speed, had some chances and we didn’t skate well. They are atough team, it’s hard to get to their goal, it’s hard to enforce against them,” the IIHF website quotes Roman Josi, who assisted on two goals.
After three games, Great Britain is currently the only team in the championship that has not scored a single point. Nevertheless, Eisbären Berlin forward Liam Kirk managed to find some positives in his post-game evaluation.
“We definitely played much better than against Finland. Switzerland is a great team. They are in this elite group for a reason. You can see for yourself how they play, their attention to detail. We still have a lot of work to do,” said the 24-year-old Kirk.
Roman Josi dominates the scoring
Swiss captain Roman Josi once again delivered anoutstanding performance. The thirty-three year old quarterback is currently dominating the scoring in the entire competition. He managed two goals and six assists in four games. His game is really a joy to watch.
“I feel good. I really like my game so far, but I think there is still potential to improve. We all need to keep working on our system and try to get better and better every game. But I’m happy with the wins,” Josi is clear.
Both teams will face Denmark in their next game. Britain goes back into action on Friday, with Switzerland taking on the Danes a day later.
