The Czech national football team will play a barrier match against Sweden on Thursday. If our team manages to advance, it will play Poland for the World Cup. What does coach Jaroslav Šilhavý have to say before the important match?
The semi-final match for the World Championship is here. Now there is no time for any rehearsals, the Czech team must win twice to reach the dream World Championship.
The team is significantly weakened compared to the summer Euro, missing the entire defensive four or striker Patrik Schick, who is hoping to be available for the potential clash with Poland.
What to expect from Thursday’s match? This is what coach Jaroslav Šilhavý talked about in an interview with Repre fotbal, and he is certainly not expecting an easy selection of the starting eleven.
“It seems to me that Sweden, like Denmark in the quarter-finals of the Euros, is not a big name for the public like Spain, Italy or Belgium. But they have a very good team. They play simple football up top, a 4-4-2 formation.
They have very good players, be it Lindelöf, Forsberg, Isak or Kulusevsky. Moreover, if we look at the history, the Swedish team has progressed with strong opponents. They regularly makeit to the World or European Championships,” he said.
A world championship would be a huge achievement. Everyone on the team would consider this tournament the pinnacle of their careers, both as players and coaches.
“This is what every player plays for. It’s the highest level, that’s why the playoffs are so important. I believe when we have problems like this (with the roster), we will come together as Czechs and work together to make it happen,” he added.
