The Czech women’s national football team is preparing for a prestigious tournament in Australia called the Cup of Nations 2023, where our players will face Jamaica, Spain and Australia. However, the nomination is missing some of the mainstays due to injuries, so new faces have been given a chance.

The Czech national women’s football team had a relatively successful year in 2022. Although they did not qualify for the World Cup, they played many quality matches.

These include, for example, the draw with the USA at the SheBeleives Cup in February, or the draw with England in mid-October. Gradually, Czech women’s football is finally getting among the elite.

Their increasing performance has also earned them an invitation to the 2023 Cup of Nations tournament in Australia. Outside of their home country, they will also face Spain and Jamaica.

“This is a very high quality tournament for us, all of our opponents are participating in the World Championships in the summer, proving their quality. It will be a good preparation in the winter period when we can be in different conditions.

Australia has been showing good results for a long time, they advanced from the group at the last championship, Jamaica finished second behind the USA in the qualification and Spain is one of the top teams in Europe,” coach Karel Rada told the national team website.

However, he will have to miss many of his mainstays. Goalkeeper Barbora Votíková will still be unavailable, while Eliška Sonntagová, Kateřina Svitková and Tereza Szewieczková will not be taking part in the tournament.

Some new faces will get a chance. The team will meet on Friday 10 February and then move to Australia. We can look forward to the opening game against Australia on February 16 at 9::10, three days later we play Jamaica at 4::50 and Spain on February 22 at 5::00.
