Jorge Masvidal got himself into a lot of trouble when he spotted Colby Covington outside a Miami restaurant and attacked him. So the war from the UFC 272 main event continues.

The Masvidal vs. Covington war continues on the streets of Miami

Two weeks ago, the gala of the world’s largest organization , UFC 272, took place with the main event of Masvidal vs. Covington. The two fighters, despite being formerly good friends from the same gym, targeted personal attacks against each other before the anticipated fight even started, and well-known provocateur Colby Covington didn’t hesitate to lean on his opponent’s family.

The main match of the evening itself then produced a dominant victory for Colby Covington, who wore down his opponent, who is a known stand-up fighter, especially on the ground. Masvidal did land a clean shot to Covington’s chin in the fourth round, but as he later admitted in the post-fight press conference, he no longer had the power to finish his rival.

Anyone who thought that this would put an end to the war between the two irreconcilable camps was mistaken. Jorge Masvidal, who promised his rival retribution in the streets, lived up to his word. But he may have gotten himself into a lot of trouble, as he now faces felony charges.

Police records show Masvidal attacked Covington outside a Miami restaurant called Papi Steak on Monday night. The police report says Masvidal ran up to Covington from the left and punched him twice in the face without noticing. Masvidal was reportedly wearing a hoodie and was wearing a mask.

Covington ran back into the restaurant after more people tried to join the fight. The report indicates that Covington called police stating that he suffered a fractured left front tooth, damage to his wristwatch and a scrape on his wrist. According to police records, the incident is listed as a felony and Masvidal is listed as a suspect.

“You shouldn’t have talked about my kids,” Masvidal was alleged to have yelled at Covington in the police report , according to the Marca newspaper.

Low-quality footage of the incident has been released

Miami TV station WPLG Local 10 released a report of the incident, showing blurry footage of one man (presumably Covington) walking out of the restaurant and two men in black running up behind him and attacking him from behind.

We can also see in the report a video of Jorge Masvidal speaking to Covington on his social media and confirming his attack. “We can call it ‘show your face , ‘” he affirms his emotional assault on Covington in the video. He later deleted the video, but of course, it has already gone viral.

The tabloid newspaper TMZ Sports, on the other hand, published a video in which Colby Covington is already surrounded by police and describes to the officers present the course of the attack on his person.

Jorge Masvidal is not only facing criminal charges, but he’s also taking a hit on social media. While we can speculate that Colby Covington was asking for trouble for his personal attacks beyond ethical principles, such attacks from behind on an unsuspecting opponent are more likely to hurt Masvidal. Especially when he fell unanimously in their cage confrontation.
