On the evening of November 23rd, the news of Jiří Procházka’s injury came out. The fight with Glover Teixeira is cancelled, the Czech fighter flew back to the Czech Republic tonight and gave a short interview to the journalists.
Although his preparation for the defence of the welterweight championship belt was now supposed to be at its peak, Jiri Prochazka travelled back to the Czech Republic.
A serious shoulder injury will not allow him to fight Glover Teixeira, and he has to undergo surgery, which will be followed by a few months break.
“Now the situation is just the way it is. Next week I’m going to fix my body, fix what needs to be fixed and move on. What was supposed to happen has happened. I’m taking all this positively, no matter how bad the situation is in the preparation. I believe it was meant to be. I’m back and we’re moving on,” he told reporters at the airport.
There has been a lot of talk about the length of his absence, although he believes it won’t be that long. So he’s cutting his often-predicted year almost in half.
“In the UFC, they tried to scare me a little bit, just because of the belt, to let the other guys have it. Because of that, they scared a little bit that it would be around 9-12 months. After consulting with other experts and surgeons, I think it won’t be more than six months until the next fight. 6-7 months maximum,” he added.
In recent days, he has been deciding where to undergo the challenging surgery. In the end, he decided on the Czech Republic, also because of the upcoming holidays.
However, after his injury, the situation regarding the title he vacated was addressed. In the end, however, according to Jehoslov, it was not of his mind. “It was the UFC’s idea, after consulting with them we came to this conclusion,” he explained the situation.
Instead of him and Glover Teixeira, Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz will fight for the belt, which Prochazka doesn’t like. He also sent an apologetic voice message to the Brazilian.
“I recorded a voicemail for him saying I’m sorry and that I’m sorry. It’s unfortunate that it’s so close to the game. And especially the fact that Glover doesn’t have a fight after all.
He was getting ready and they didn’t match him up with an opponent. That they would have given him, say, Blachowicz, who he’s already beaten once, and made a move for him. That pisses me off,” he finished.
