Liverpool beat Chelsea 4-1 in the 22nd round of the Premier League. However, the Reds’ victory could have been much bigger if Darwin Núñez hadn’t been lucky with his shot. The striker hit the post four times.

Núñez hit the bar three times in the first half

In the eighth minute Darwin Núñez could have been on the scoresheet in Liverpool’s match against Chelsea. He fired hard after a clearance, but Djorde Petrovic intervened and the ball ended up on the crossbar. From the top of the bar, the ball bounced over and the Reds earned at least a corner.

After 10 minutes, the situation was almost repeated. Núñez fired again, but goalkeeper Petrovic took the last word when he intervened to knock the attempt onto the bar.

The underdogs’ spirits were lifted in the 23rd minute when Diego Jota opened the scoring with a shot into the bottom corner of the net, which the goalkeeper could not reach.

Diego Jota’s goal was followed up by Conor Bradley, only 20 years old. From an angle, the Liverpool defender hit the far post to make it 2-0. It was his first goal in the Premier League, to which he also added an assist on a Diogo Jota finish.

In the first half, Núñez was able to make amends for his two previous unfortunate incidents. Liverpool had the advantage of playing a penalty kick, which was taken by the Uruguay striker.

However, he was unsuccessful this time as he hit the right post with a hard shot. Despite Núñez’s misfortune, the Reds dominated the first half and went into the break with a 2-0 lead, which they only had to protect in the second half.

In the second half he hit the post for the fourth time

Even after the change of sides, Darwin Núñez continued his efforts to score. But the second half didn’t produce a goal either. In the 75th minute, he came closest to scoring, but again hit the crossbar with a header from a small area.

He added to the match statistics at least four minutes later when he assisted Diaz’s goal. Liverpool won 4-1 against Chelsea and consolidated their position at the top of the Premier League.
