The UFC champion is not giving up on his dream. Contract situation won’t stop me from fighting Fury, says Ngannou, who has big plans

Francis Ngannou has long dreamed of fighting in boxing. He would like to fight the most respected, undefeated champion Tyson Fury, who retired after his last fight. But the obstacle to fulfilling that dream is the UFC, where the African fighter still has his sights set.

UFC champion Francis Ngannou was already dealing with contract issues before his last fight in the best MMA organization in the world. First and foremost he is fighting for higher fighter salaries, secondly he would like to see the organization not deny its fighters the opportunity to earn elsewhere.

Ngannou has always gravitated towards boxing, he wanted to be a boxer but eventually became a highly successful MMA fighter. He’s had an impressive journey that definitely deserves a movie treatment. But he still hasn’t given up on his dream – boxing.

As a champion, he would love to take on another champion. There has been talk of Ngannou fighting boxing star Tyson Fury for quite some time now. The latter defended his titles over the weekend in a fight with Dillian Whyte, whom he knocked out. After the win, he admitted his career was over.

However, he invited the UFC champion into the ring, with whom they announced that they wanted to fight in a boxing match with hybrid rules. Their fight would take place in MMA gloves, which are smaller and in which knockouts are more likely.

However, there is a catch, which has already been mentioned above. The UFC doesn’t allow its fighters to fight anywhere else. And that’s why Ngannou has fallen out with the organization’s boss, Dana White. There has been a lot of talk about whether the African fighter will continue in the organization at all.

Now, however, he has revealed that he met with UFC executives over dinner to clear the air. No contract or other disagreements were discussed. Ngannou did, however, voice his plans, communicating his frustration with the whole situation.

However, he is certain that the disagreements cannot be resolved in one or two dinners. “There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. It’s not personal problems, it’s business problems. I want the best for myself, so we have to work it out,” he expressed on the MMA Hour.

“The fight with Fury has to be part of our discussion. I’m not going to sign the same model contract as last time. I have to figure out a way to implement this fight into the contract. However, my contract situation will not prevent me from making this fight happen,” Ngannou is clear.

His plan is not impossible. The UFC already made an exception once when Conor McGregor fought the legendary Floyd Mayweather in boxing.

Ngannou might as well wait until his contract is up and then fight Fury. But he admits he’s interested in a new contract. He says the UFC is a great organization that he would like to continue in.

The champion is looking forward to taking on the legendary Jon Jones, and is also tempted by the completion of a trilogy with arguably the best heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic.
