Khabib Nurmagomedov’s confidant has been asking for a title fight for quite some time. When he got it, he didn’t hesitate. He gave Charles Oliveira virtually no chance, beating him in two rounds.
Before the fight, there was a lot of talk that Islam Makhachev was not eligible for the title because he didn’t face anyone from the top lightweight division. But it didn’t show in the fight. But now his penultimate opponent has spoken out about the Dagestani champion.
That was none other than the highly experienced Bobby Green, whom Makhachev defeated in the first round in February. In fact, the American veteran found a video that suggests unpleasant things.
“I found a video where it was discussed that Islam was using various substances. When he went to the school where he trained in Russia, they gave him vitamins. They had been doing that since he apparently started training. Imagine giving someone steroids from the age of 10, 12, 13, 14 or 15. How strong would you be?” quotes Green as saying, according to MMA Mania.
After all, much has been made of Makhachev’s strength in his weight class. Even Green felt it “It makes sense now. There was something interesting about Islam. I felt it. His power wasn’t human,” he said.
It’s worth noting, however, that Green himself had a history of problems with illicit substance use. He was even given a six-month suspension, however, it was proven that it was unknowing use.
Makhachev should also be clean at the moment. After all, he has been tested eight times this year by the anti-doping agency USADA.
However, Green reminded that Russia has had problems at the Olympics because of doping, where no one is allowed to compete under its flag. He said that is also why Dagestanis are winning so much in MMA. He said they were bred for it.
