UFC boss Dana White has spoken out about the return of combat sports’ biggest star. It was originally thought that Conor McGregor could fight in the summer, but apparently this is not realistic and his return will be delayed a bit.

Conor McGregor last fought in July last year when he took on Dustin Poirier for the third time. However, the fight ended with the American fighter winning and a very nasty injury to the Irish star.

The former two-time UFC champion broke his tibia and fibula in the fight and is still recovering from the injury. He had been preparing fans for his return in the summer, but apparently that won’t happen.

“He’s not ready. We’ll see when he can fight. When the doctor gives him 100% clearance to fight again, we will only start looking for possible opponents. I have nothing for him yet,” BJPenn quotes UFC boss Dana White as saying.

White added, among other things, that if all goes well and according to plan, McGregor could return to the cage around the beginning of the fall. Once that happens, it will understandably be a spectacular event.

McGregor is by far the most watched fighter and biggest star in MMA, with his last fight in the UFC alone selling nearly 2 million PPVs. The fact that he has lost three of his last four fights doesn’t change his popularity.

And who could the Irishman face? There has been a lot of talk about another fight with Poirier, but that doesn’t look realistic. McGregor was challenged by many, but to no avail. The fighter himself has asked for a fight with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but according to experts this is a nonsensical demand.

However, the Irish fighter wants to fight in the welterweight division and it is not impossible that he will actually fight in it.
