Great show, great event, unfortunately with a bitter end for the Czechoslovakian fans. That was UFC 295 in a nutshell. The main event of the evening featured Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira, and the duel saw the eighth finish of the gala.
Unfortunately, the Moravian Samurai was one of the fighters who fell. It happened in the second round. Yet he was the better man for most of the fight. He was hitting well, he was pointing well. The Brazilian stood out especially with his great kicks.
But once Prochazka landed a good shot in the second round and Pereira backed up to the canvas, it was bad. Poatan hit his opponent’s chin and he went down. He tried to stay active, but the referee stopped the fight.
There’s been a lot of public speculation about how controversial this stoppage was. There are no shortage of those who believe Marc Goddard intervened too early. Although Prochazka admitted it was okay. UFC boss Dana White also had his say on the matter.
White spoke about the termination and the future of both fighters
One of the questions at the press conference towards the UFC boss was just whether he felt the main event termination was okay. “If Jiri says it wasn’t an early termination, it definitely wasn’t an early termination,” Dana White let slip.
And what’s next for the Moravian samurai? “He needs to take some time off, get some rest. His legs have been given a beating. When he comes back, we’ll discuss what’s next. He’s a tough guy,” White said of Prochazka.
There was also a lot of talk about Alex Pereira’s next opponent. He has asked for a fight with Israel Adesanya, however, he should concentrate on the welterweight title, where Jamahal Hill wants to challenge him. However, the latter is still recovering from injury and is expected to return in the first half of next year.
“When Jamahal is ready, that’s a fight that makes total sense to me for Alex,” White is quite clear about the Brazilian’s future. Adesanya, by the way, has announced a hiatus until 2027.
However, he did praise Pereira at the end, “I don’t know if it’s enough to be among the all-time greats, but what Alex has done in such a short time is definitely remarkable.
