The three best players of Union Berlin, Slavia’s opponent in the European Conference League

Football Slavia Prague is preparing for the first group match in the Conference Europa League. It welcomes home the Bundesliga team Union Berlin. Who are the best players in this cup newcomer?

Marvin Friedrich – 25 years old, defender (Germany)

Friedrich has been with Union since 2018, when he joined a team still playing in the second Bundesliga. He has developed into an indispensable part of the starting line-up here.

Whether Union plays two or three stoppers, Friedrich is not missing among them. His strengths include headers, tackling and reading the game.

The Slavs should also look out for him in their defensive standard. Friedrich scored five goals last season and the new coach of the German national team, Flick, thought a lot about his nomination.

Taiwo Awoniyi – 24 years old, striker (Nigeria)

This forward has travelled quite a lot in his short career. He’s been at Liverpool since 2015, but has managed to go on loan seven times to six different clubs.

He was a guest at Union last season and they were so happy with him that they bought him out on a transfer this summer. Well, in the new season so far he has scored three times in four games.

He is a strong, quick striker, with good ball coverage and a good selection of space. He gets on very well with his strike partner Max Kruse.

Max Kruse – 33 years old, striker, midfielder (Germany)

Max Kruse is undoubtedly one of Union’s biggest personalities. A footballer who has been through many starts in his career and has managed to make it everywhere.

He is a very intelligent player who can give the game the necessary thought, he is very productive, he scores goals, he sets them up, his left foot is able to score even from a direct kick.

In the Bundesliga he has only missed one penalty out of 19 so far. He is simply the type of footballer who can pull his team together and be a role model on the pitch.
