The Kings should consider bringing in Rittich
The third game of the series between the Kings and the Oilers was a clear win for the visiting team. The Oilers overwhelming offensive power absolutely dominated this game. And once again, Los Angeles was not very well supported by number one goalie Cam Talbot. He’s putting up disastrous numbers in this year’s playoffs.
He’s played in every game so far and scored 16 goals! That results in an average of 5.30 goals per game. In addition, his save percentage is well below 90 percent. Out of 115 shot attempts, he has converted only 99 and has a success rate of 86.1%.
So it’s time for Czech goalie David Rittich to get a shot in goal for the Kings. Before it’s too late. Rittich has always been a stalwart for Los Angeles during the regular season and when else should he get the opportunity than now, as tonight’s home game has become a literal horror for Los Angeles.
The home team’s defense was no match for the Oilers’ offense. Edmonton dominated the first period 3:0, with Talbot scoring in the 7th minute of the game off the stick of Zach Hyman and offensive stars Leon Draisatl and Connor McDavid making their way to the end of the period.
In the second 20 minutes, Kings defensive stalwart Drew Doughty provided a glimmer of hope. However, the Oilers’ answer came soon after when Evander Kane gave the visiting team back a three-goal lead. Talbot was ripe for a substitution at that point, yet the coach let him finish the game again.
The Kings didn’t handle the game mentally
The Kings were already ripe for the towel in the third period at 45:19 when eight players on both sides were ejected. A completely frustrated home team could not take the game mentally at this point and of course the Oilers took advantage of the offered numerical advantage.
It was Zach Hyman who beat Talbot for the second time in the game and the game was definitely decided. Late in the game, Leon Draisaitla used another power play and he also scored two goals in this game. This game was greatly affected by numerous exclusions on both sides.
The Oilers took the lead in the series and presented an incredible offensive force. So far, they are confirming that this team could finally see significant success in this playoffs. Moreover, thanks to their offensive appetites, the Oilers have dominated the individual playoff statistics in both the Canadian scoring and goal scoring charts.
