The Czechs have advanced to the elite group in the Nations League and can look forward to tough opponents in Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team will face the first-named team today.
“Swiss football has gone up tremendously in recent years. This can be seen in the example of Basel, which has a great academy and has produced a lot of great footballers. TheSwiss played at the last World Cup, advanced to this year’s championship and beat France at the Euro, so they certainly deserve nothing but respect,” the Czech goalkeeper said at the press conference.
Although Switzerland is considered the weakest opponent of the trio, the opposite may be true. They finished first ahead of Italy in World Cup qualifying and fell to Spain in the Euro quarter-finals on penalties.
“We have to enter that match actively as well. It will be important to attack them right at the start of their combination. They can certainly feel like favourites, even considering they advanced to the World Cup via Italy. But we are playing at home and we will want to make our fans happy,” Vaclik added.
If he starts the match, he will make his 50th start in the senior national team. “Honestly, I never thought I would ever reach such a number. I think I had one start for one year when I was in the national team together with Petr Cech. It’s a huge number and it’s an honour for me,” Vaclik finished.
The game against Switzerland is scheduled for today at 20:45. If you want to watch it at the stadium, there is still a chance, there are still a few hundred tickets left.
