American soccer has been on the rise in recent years and this summer is proof of that. Lionel Messi himself has moved to the top American league. But there have also been many transfers of American players. Some have landed, some may not, some are still waiting for their transfer.
One of the first Americans to see a transfer this summer was Brenden Aaronson. He left Salzburg, Austria, for Leeds, England, a year ago. However, he was relegated with his team and after the season he went on loan to the German Union Berlin.
His colleague from Leeds, Tyler Adams, had an exit clause in his contract, which could be exercised in case of relegation. He had already had one foot in Chelsea, but the transfer ultimately fell through and Adams moved to Bournemouth.
The third American at Leeds, was Weston McKennie. He had been at the club since January on loan from Juventus. He returned to Italy in the summer, but according to reports, coach Allegri should not have counted on him. However, he has remained in the squad for the time being and is logging minutes as a substitute.
McKennie’s teammate at Juventus is Timothy Weah, who joined Torino from Lille as a replacement for the departing Juan Cuadrado.
The biggest American star, Christian Pulisic, also moved from the Premier League to Serie A. He has been defending the colours of AC Milan since the new season and entered his engagement with two goals in his first two games. In addition to him, another American midfielder, Yunus Musah from Valencia, has also joined AC Milan.
Apart from Pulisic, the talented goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina left Chelsea for Eupen in Belgium.
PSV Eindhoven also introduced interesting reinforcements, who managed to snare Ricardo Pepi from Augsburg. He was a guest at Groningen last year, where he scored 12 goals. He was joined by Malik Tillman from Bayern and Sergiño Desta from Barcelona.
And finally, back to the Premier League. Arsenal London started with three Americans in the squad at the start of their preparations, but now it looks like none will start the season for them. Auston Trusty has gone to Sheffield United, Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest and Folarin Balogun is expected to strengthen AS Monaco.
