The Spanish national football team is dealing with some unpleasantness a few days before the start of the Euros. Captain Sergio Busquets has tested positive for the coronavirus. On Friday, he still played in the friendly against Portugal.
Busquets tested positive on Sunday and must enter quarantine from Monday. The Barcelona footballer will certainly miss his team’s opening game against Sweden on June 14.
After the quarantine period and the negative test, Busquets could theoretically start the second group match against Poland on June 19.
All the other national team members have tested negative. Those who were in closer contact with Busquets should correctly start the quarantine.
This could also apply to Cristiano Ronaldo, who briefly greeted Busquets before Friday’s friendly.
Spain have one more preparatory match against Lithuania before the start of the Euros. However, it will play it against the under-21 team just to be safe.
The Spanish coach even has the option of replacing Busquets in the squad for the championship. UEFA came up with this rule due to the exceptional epidemic situation.
