Tomáš Ostrák took a bold step this summer. After his contract expired in Cologne, he signed for St. Louis City, who were waiting to join MLS. But now he’s rolling with the overseas competition.
The talented midfielder was unable to make it in the A-team of Bundesliga Cologne even after a successful guest stint in Karviná. Last season, he made only six starts in the A-team and it was obvious that he would not sign a new contract.
In the summer he could certainly choose between different clubs. However, he made a bold move. He signed with St. Louis City, a team that played a competition for reserve and youth teams of clubs that play in MLS. It was here that St. Louis prepared for the top American competition.
Since the new season they have been among the American elite and during six months in the lower competition Tomas Ostrák won his place in the line-up. He played 10 games for the American club and scored 3 goals.
But it was a mystery how Ostrák and his teammates would fare in MLS. And how is that? For now, above expectations. High. After five rounds, St. Louis has the lead in the competition. They are the only undefeated team not only in the Western Conference, but in all of MLS.
Five games, five wins, 15 points, a 15-4 record. All in all, an excellent start. No expansion team has ever done better in its first season. A big part of this is also due to Ostrak himself, who started in the starting lineup in all the games.
Ostrák also managed to score once. According to WhoScored, he is one of the above-average players with a very nice average grade of 7.02. He is one of the best players on his team.
So the risky move is working out for Ostrak for now. However, the MLS season is long and anything can happen. Let’s hope, however, that the 23-year-old midfielder doesn’t lose his game overseas.
