The semifinal pairings at the US Open are complete. The best women’s foursome of the tournament includes the biggest favourite for the title, Iga Świąteková, who will play the winner of Karolina Pliskova. The men’s quarterfinals offered the second longest match in the history of the American Grand Slam.

It was a duel between two young talents of world tennis, from which Carlos Alcaraz walked away as the winner after five hours and fifteen minutes. His victory over Jannik Sinner after sets 6::3, 6::7, 6::7, 7::5 and 6::3 was also the match with the latest ending in the history of the US Open, as we knew the final result at 2::49 pm New York time.

The final could be a battle for the world throne

Alcaraz will face home hope Frances Tiafoe in the semi-final. The nineteen-year-old Spanish star is attacking the number one position in the ATP rankings after the eighth-final elimination of Daniil Medvedev.

But the same goes for Casper Ruud, who will challenge Karen Khachanov on Friday. This would make a possible title clash between the young Spaniard and the current world number seven from Norway all the more intense.

The women’s singles, on the other hand, has a fairly clear ruler in terms of the top of the world rankings this season. That is Poland’s Iga Świątek, who took on American Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals. The Warsaw native will next play Aryna Sabalenka, who knocked out Karolina Pliskova on Wednesday.

The other semifinal pair is France’s Caroline Garcia and Ons Dzabour. The Tunisian tennis player was already within reach of a Grand Slam title this year, but lost to Jelena Rybakina in the Wimbledon final.

In doubles, the Czechs and the defending men’s champions are still in contention

Czech tennis can still think about triumphing at the US Open 2022. The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday 22:30 with Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova. Their next obstacle on the way to their sixth joint triumph in the Big Four tournaments is the duo of Nicole Melicharova-Martinez, Ellen Perez.

Also among the top four pairs in the women’s doubles tournament are Caroline Dolehide and Storm Sanders, who will play the home unseeded pair of Caty McNally, Taylor Townsend for a place in the final.

The men’s doubles will feature a duel between defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury and Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Roberto Farah. The other semi-final promises to be a close contest, with the top two seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski taking on the tournament’s number three seeds Marcel Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer.

In mixed doubles, one final pairing is already known, Kirsten Flipkens and Édouard Roger-Vasselin. They will face the winner of the match between the pairs Caty McNally, William Blumberg and Storm Sanders, John Peers for the title. The final clashes of this year’s US Open can be watched on Eurosport.
