The end of the Fortuna National League is approaching and the biggest question marks of the season are slowly being resolved. Seven matches of the 26th round of the second highest football competition in the country were played on Wednesday. Varnsdorf lost 0:1 at home to Lišná in the preliminary match a day earlier.

Of the six matches, which kicked off at 5 pm, five ended in draws. The scoreboard showed 1:1 after the matches between Vyškov and Vlašimí, Ústí and Dukla and Sparta “B” and Jihlava. The match between Žižkov and Opava was 2:2. A goalless draw was born in the duel between Příbram and Chrudim.

Brno wanted to celebrate their promotion to the first league after the game against Trinec, which was not kicked off until 7 pm. However, the confirmation of the return to the elite happened before that, thanks to the loss of Vlašim. However, Zbrojovka made the celebrations more enjoyable with a win against Silesia 4:2.

Another traditional club, on the other hand, had to swallow the bad news. Viktoria Žižkov, the 1928 Czechoslovak champion, was relegated to the third league. Last year it was still in fourth place. But this year is not a good year in terms of games or results. The Prague players have not managed to win even once, which cost Martin Pulpit his post as head coach three weeks ago.

And how does it look at both ends of the second league table? Four teams are fighting for the two positions guaranteeing the barrage, with Vlašim currently the best with 46 points. Fifth-placed Opava is also in the game, two points back.

If the reserve of the Letná club actually finished in third place, a strange situation would arise. Logically, this team would not be able to advance, which, according to the rules, would result in one less team from the Fortuna Liga going into the barrage.

The fight to save the second league affiliation is also interesting. The question remains who will complement Žižkov on their way down. Ústí nad Labem is now second to last with 25 points. 27 points have been won by Trinec and Chrudim, which has a game to play against Taborsk. Theoretically, other teams, such as the 30-point Vyškov, can also dip into the relegation waters.

The 27th edition of the Fortuna National League season is scheduled for this weekend. It will offer, among other things, a small Prague derby between Dukla and Spartan “B” team. However, it will be interesting to watch practically all teams, because there is still something to play for in several aspects. The last round will take place on Saturday 14th May.
