The season is about to start and Manchester United still haven’t signed a striker! We have made great progress, reassures the fans ten Hag
Erik ten Hag has been making it clear for months that Manchester United need a striker for the new season. So far, however, the Red Devils haven’t announced one, which they seem to have come significantly closer to doing this week. At least judging by the Dutch coach’s latest words. However, he did not reveal whether it will be the most mentioned Rasmus Hojlund.
Erik ten Hag has been making it clear for months that Manchester United need a striker for the new season. So far, however, the Red Devils haven’t announced one, which they seem to have come significantly closer to doing this week. At least judging by the Dutch coach’s latest words. However, he didn’t reveal whether it will be the most mentioned Rasmus Hojlund after all.
After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, coach Erik ten Hag was looking for an adequate replacement. That was his compatriot Wout Weghorst, who shone at the World Cup in Qatar when he sent the Dutch national team into extra time with two goals. However, the Dutch still lost to Argentina on penalties in the end.
In total, the 30-year-old striker scored just 2 goals for the Red Devils, while playing 31 games. Most of the goals were scored by wingers led by Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes. The need to bring in a new striker is more than obvious.
The most talked about is “Danish Haaland”, with whom Manchester United, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, has already agreed on terms. But now it’s time to negotiate the transfer fee.
Manchester United are reportedly preparing an official offer for Atalanta, for whom Hojlund scores goals – nine in the past season in the Italian Serie A.
The Danish striker, who is typologically very similar to Haaland, may not have such impressive stats, but at 20 years old he still has a lot of room for improvement. And that kind of potential comes at a price!
Meanwhile, the Mirror reported that Manchester United are not going to pay more than £60 million for Hojlund though. With PSG also circling around the Danish striker, the English outfit must act.
“Yes, we have made progress. But you know how it works, as soon as we get him we will tell you. The only thing I can say now is that we are trying to get him as fast as we can.”
Hojlund, meanwhile, only joined Atalanta a year ago, who acquired him from Austrian side Sturm Graz. But as the season went on, he began to get more and more space on the pitch until he became one of the Italian team’s key men.
He would certainly be a great acquisition for Haga, and one with great potential for the future. However, Atalanta certainly don’t need to panic as Hojlund offers a lot for the future and is currently under contract until 2027.
