The sad return of a representative of a legendary family. Gracie appeared in the UFC after a long layoff and put on a desperate performance. The worst I’ve ever seen, coming from the fans
The name Gracie means something in the world of combat sports. The way this family has managed to represent Brazilian jiu-jitsu is unparalleled. That was also a reason to look forward to UFC 288, which featured Kron Gracie in his third fight in the organization. Unfortunately, he fell far short of expectations.
Kron Gracie may not be as prominent a figure as he used to be with, say, Royce or Rickson Gracie, but he still carries a last name that no one in the combat sports world can ignore.
A good number of UFC stars have tried to move on with Kron through Brazilian jiu-jitsu. We can mention the legendary Nate Diaz, for example, who is very familiar with him.
That’s one of the reasons why he appeared on the main card of the numbered UFC 288 event after a nearly four-year hiatus. And that he lost his last fight? It’s still Gracie, a name that has sound. So it’s been interesting to see how he’s moved on in that time.
Kron’s opponent was the handy Charles Jourdain, and it was more or less a battle of two different styles. It was obvious that Gracie was going to want to take the fight to the ground, it was just expected that maybe he would work on his stance.
Unfortunately, he didn’t. Gracie once again showed that he has a hard chin and that he can take a lot of punches. It just goes to show that MMA is simply moving forward, and once you don’t move forward you are headed for trouble.
The Brazilian was largely unable to do anything in the fight. He did take the fight to the ground a couple of times where he was in the bottom position. But Jourdain was very attentive, took no chances and guarded any potential submission attempts so precisely that nothing even had time to happen.
Then when the fight was in the stand-up if Jourdain clearly had the upper hand. Sadly, then, we saw a sad to desperate comeback. Gracie now has a record of 5-2, and fans agree that he shouldn’t have his place in the UFC any more secure. On the contrary.
According to many fans and combat sports websites, Gracie gave the worst performance ever.
