Mario Götze has pretty much disappeared from the eyes and minds of football fans who don’t follow other competitions outside our top competition or the top five European leagues. However, that could soon change.

The golden boy of German football has decided to make an interesting move in autumn 2020. He left Borussia Dortmund, where he couldn’t get back to good form, for the Netherlands, specifically PSV Eindhoven.

For football fans, the scorer of the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final may have gone out of sight and out of mind, but he has come alive at PSV, becoming an important player and really helping his team with his experience.

It was supposed to be for a season, but in the end he stayed for two. And it is not impossible that he will add another. But it’s up to him. At 30 years old, he still has a few years to go and has let it be known in the past that he wants to play in the Champions League.

He could make that happen. That’s because Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in him, having secured participation in the millionaire competition after a spectacular Europa League run last season when they successively eliminated Real Betis, Barcelona, West Ham and Rangers FC in the knockout stages.

According to Bild, Götze has an extra clause in his contract that allows him to leave for €4 million. However, the contract is due to expire at the end of June, so the Hessian side must hurry if they are interested. However, it can be expected that he will be willing to pay a higher amount.

Apart from Frankfurt, Benfica Lisbon are interested in the player, and quite recently in Italy there was also talk about the interest of AS Roma, led by Jose Mourinho.

Götze has played 77 competitive games for PSV Eindhoven, scoring 18 goals and adding 18 assists. He is under contract at the club until the summer of 2024.
