Marcelo has been a free agent for a couple of days now, having finally failed to complete his one-year contract at Olympiakos in Greece. However, in an interview with ESPN, he hinted at his future plans involving his former club Real Madrid.
Marcelo ended a great era this summer when he parted ways with Real Madrid, in whose jersey he became a legend, after 15 long years. He won many trophies with the Spanish giant and was one of the best players in the world at his position.
At the beginning of this season, he signed for Olympiakos of Greece, where he was supposed to be one of the team’s biggest stars. But it didn’t quite happen, as the Brazilian outside back didn’t shine too much and was still plagued by health problems.
Marcelo played only 10 games for the Greek club, scoring 3 goals. However, his contract was terminated in February and so he is now a free agent again at the age of 34. So it’s time to decide what’s next.
It is not impossible that he could end his career. But he hasn’t said any such words yet. But he has given hope to Real Madrid fans. He would like to return to the Spanish club.
“Real Madrid is my home. I came here at the age of 18, I learned all the club values from players like Raúl, Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos. To be honest, I feel I never left Real Madrid,” Marcelo expressed to ESPN.
“I can imagine returning to the club. I would love to help young players who need it. Just like others helped me when I arrived at 18,” the Brazilian added.
Marcelo has played 546 competitive games for Real Madrid. He scored 38 goals and added 103 assists for his former club. He would definitely have a lot to offer young players.
