The results of the VC of Mexico can play a key role in the championship! Is Bottas to blame for Hamilton’s poor result?

The Mexican Grand Prix was a very attractive race, but it also brought a lot of controversy. Could Bottas’ actions be the deciding element in the championship fight? Red Bull completely dominated the Mexican Grand Prix, the battle between Ferrari and McLaren continues, with great drives from Gasly and Vettel.

The Mexican Grand Prix was clearly dominated by Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver started from third position, but thanks to a gross error by Valtteri Bottas, he took the top spot!

But can Bottas’ action be described as a gross error? The fact remains that the Finnish driver hesitated again at the start and did not start well at all. The other thing, however, is that after coming out of his starting slot, he went off his racing line and pressed on to Lewis Hamilton.

Yes, it’s natural that a driver, if given the opportunity, will always fight for first place, and therefore the race win. But Verstappen made a truly brilliant start and was on a clean slate. Hamilton started from the dirt track, which is much harder to brake into the first corner.

By moving off his line, Bottas literally gave Verstappen a clear path into turn one. And he made the most of it.

It should also be noted that Red Bull had a really great race pace and Hamilton was absolutely no match for Verstappen after that. The seven-time world champion himself admitted that in his post-race interview.

“I gave it everything, their pace (Red Bull – ed.) was impressive. Congratulations to them for a good result. Anyway, there was nothing we could do about it today, they were just too fast,” Hamilton said in his post-race interview.

In addition, Pérez pressed Hamilton hard in the last ten laps, but the thirty-one-year-old Mexican failed to take second place. Notably, Pérez became the first Mexican to lead the Mexican Grand Prix.

He is also the first driver from his country to stand on the podium in Mexico. And to add to the praise for Sergio Pérez, he was also named the best driver of the day.

With this victory, Verstappen leapfrogged Hamilton by a margin of nineteen points. However, the gap between the two title contenders could have been even wider. Bottas, however, took the twenty-four-year-old Dutchman’s fastest lap late in the race.

As standard, one extra championship point is awarded for this feat. However, the fact that Bottas, the holder of the fastest lap of the race, finished outside the top ten does not award an extra point.

The battle for the team title also looks interesting. Here Red Bull has significantly reduced Mercedes’ lead to a single point! And let’s not forget the bitter battle between Ferrari and McLaren.

The Italian team from Maranello, however, takes a solid 18 points from the Mexican Grand Prix, with McLaren just a single point behind Lando Norris’ tenth place. Daniel Ricciardo also finished twelfth due to a collision at the start of the race.

This moved Ferrari up to third, with McLaren dropping to number four. What’s worse, the Woking team is currently 13.5 points behind its rival.

And we mustn’t forget Pierre Gasly’s excellent result. The Alpha Tauri driver had a really good race and rightly took fourth place. Sebastian Vettel will also be pleased, as he took his Aston Martin to seventh place.

Behind him, Kimi Räikkönen is in eighth position, with Fernando Alonso ninth on the results list.

And so these are the final results of the Mexican Grand Prix. The next round of this exciting series will take place next Sunday, 14 November. That’s when the race at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil will take place. And as we know from F1 history, the Brazilian Grand Prix can be a heart-pounding affair!
