An unpleasant moment happened in the Norway vs Finland match. Norwegian defenseman Christian Kåsastul was the victim of a hard hit and after a long pause the referees prematurely ended the 1st period! The Norwegians go into the break down 2 goals.

All ice hockey fans would have to search deep in their memory when the last time something like this happened. The referees ended the 1st period early due to a long ice adjustment.

The Finns took the lead in the game thanks to a power play goal by Oliver Kapanen, who scored his 4th goal in the 3rd game of the tournament. Arttu Hyry added the second goal for the Finns.

With exactly 1 minute left, defenseman Christian Kåsastul was the victim of a hard hit. After a long stay on the ice by the doctors, the Norwegian finally left the ice.

The departure was accompanied by a huge applause. Unfortunately, the player was left with a pool of blood in the corner behind the net, which the maintenance staff tried to clean up, but to no avail.

The head referee had no more nerve and prematurely ended the first period with a score of 0:2 for Finland. The Norwegian team hadn’t had many chances so far and probably welcomed the longer break.

And how was the situation resolved? The remaining minute of the 1st period was played at the beginning of the next period. After this time, the teams just switched sides and the game could continue for another 20 minutes.

The spectators in the O2 Arena witnessed an unusual and exceptional event, which was cast in the black by the injury of the Norwegian player. We wish the Norwegian quarterback a speedy recovery.
