The reason for Krejcikova’s loss? I wasn’t feeling well, but I don’t want to make excuses. Her coach advised her to skip

Barbora Krejcikova advanced to her debut Australian Open quarterfinal, where she faced Madison Keys, who is 51st in the WTA rankings. But she didn’t make it through the match, apparently due to health problems.
Krejcikova was a slight favorite in the duel. But from the beginning of the duel it was obvious that something was wrong with the Czech player. She made unnecessary mistakes, let her serve be taken away, and she was definitely not 100% in terms of movement.
Explanation? The native of Brno was not in good health. At the end of the first set, she was treated and her blood pressure was measured. The extreme heat that prevailed in Melbourne during the day certainly didn’t help. Rafael Nadal also had a problem with that, and he also had health problems in the following match.
But Krejcikova didn’t want to make any excuses. On the contrary, she congratulated her opponent on a fair victory.
“I would tell you, but I don’t want to talk about it. I think it’s disrespectful to my opponent to make excuses and look for a reason why it didn’t work. Something was bothering me and I didn’t feel good. But I don’t want to dwell on it because Madison deserved the win… It was just some problems plus the heat…,” said Krejcikova in an interview with iSport after the match.
Throughout the match, Krejcikova looked desperately to coach Ales Kartus to find a way out of her misery. But she couldn’t do it, the coach advised her to skip the match.
“The coach clearly told me to quit, that I shouldn’t continue at all. But I’m not the type who wants to quit. It’s the quarterfinals of a grand slam, nobody wants to give up. Everybody wants to play to the end, they’re trying their best and hoping something happens and it gets better. Until the last ball drops, there is still a chance to turn the match around,” Krejcikova said.
The Australian Open is over for her in singles, but the whole tournament is not over yet. She and Kateryna Siniakova will play in the doubles quarterfinals against Dolehide/Sanders on Wednesday.
“I believe I will be fine. I’ll try to rest as much as possible. And I will be there with Kate in the doubles and I believe that the performance will be better than today,” said the world number four.
