The quality of Chelsea’s squad is much lower than in previous years. Will the arrival of Aubameyang help?
Chelsea have been quite successful in recent years. It was definitely not at the same level as Liverpool and Manchester City, but it easily secured the Champions League for this year. However, the big change in the squad doesn’t look good so far, with Thomas Tuchel having problems especially in attack. Will the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang help the Blues in this regard?

The departure of a number of great footballers in the summer has hurt. The midfield line has remained more or less unchanged, but the same cannot be said for the defence and attack and the German coach will have his work cut out for him to be able to win the Champions League with this team for next season. So far, things are looking rather bleak.
This is confirmed by the fact that the London team is still trying to bring in more reinforcements at the last minute. The talented defender Wesley Fofana has already been signed for a staggering 80 million euros.
Many have also shaken their heads over the price tag for Marco Cucurella. 65 million euros is a really big amount for a full-back. The complex Spanish player is certainly a good addition, having already netted two goals, but…
Chelsea, according to English experts, overpaid a lot for these two players, but these are footballers who are already seasoned in the Premier League and that is simply paying in gold. However, Tuchel can be satisfied with the defence and midfield.
The problem is mainly in the attack, which has only been strengthened by Raheem Sterling and a lot is also expected of Armando Broya, but he still has a lot to learn. However, he has already scored 6 goals in 36 games in the Premier League.
If you compare that to the attacks of the other top teams, the Blues don’t come out very well. This is confirmed by the stats, when Chelsea have 56.7% of the ball possession, only Manchester City (67.7%) and Liverpool (64.2%) have more of the ball on their hoof this season, only with shooting and especially its efficiency it is not so glorious.
At the same time, it looked promising at the beginning, when Chelsea beat Everton and played a very good game against Tottenham, who could be said to be very happy for a point. The other games, however, did not go well at all, and the victory over Leicester may be regarded as fortunate just as it was in the case of Spurs, although the Blues played with ten men from the 28th minute.
So far the biggest problem, as mentioned, has been converting chances, it is in this respect that the arrival of the Gabonese cannonballer could certainly help a lot, 68 goals in 128 Premier League games gives some guarantee. Even more so when you imagine Sterling gets injured, then Tuchel has virtually no adequate replacement.
Things are not looking rosy with Chelsea in the current season, so it will be interesting to see if he can crack the top four, as not much is expected. However, it will depend on how the young talents play out, who will have to mature sooner than would be convenient, just like in the case of Arsenal.
