The French league witnessed a match between Montpellier and a star-studded PSG on Saturday. Star Lionel Messi shone in the match with two goals and a great performance. After the game, however, there was another issue.
In fact, midfielder Idrissa Gueye was completely missing from the PSG lineup, and there was loud talk in the media and on social media that he refused to play because of his team’s jersey. These were adorned with rainbow colours on the players’ numbers in support of the LGBT community.
This is something that is practically unacceptable in this day and age. However, this is still speculation and nothing is confirmed. Nevertheless, the President of Senegal, where Gueye is from, has commented on it.
Macky Sall, the President of Senegal, wrote on Twitter that he supports Gueye and that his religious beliefs must be respected.
Now, however, the PSG player must go to the mat as the situation is going to be dealt with by the ethics council of the French Football Federation, which does not want to rely on rumours and speculation.
“If the speculation is unfounded and untrue, we urge you to speak out immediately and silence the speculation. However, if they are true, we ask you to realize the impact of your actions and the serious mistake you have committed. By refusing to participate in the collective initiative, you are endorsing discriminatory behavior not only against the LGBTQI+ community,” the federation’s statement reads .
