It’s unbelievable, but true. It’s been 22 years since Czech football fans could see both Prague S in the spring part of the European Cups.

Sparta played Brondby at home and was a big favourite to qualify for the Conference Europa League play-offs thanks to the fact that a draw was enough.

Brondby were relatively toothless, as were a weak Sparta in the first half. But they managed to score two goals and enjoyed the win and promotion.

Slavia, on the other hand, didn’t get much rest. A draw was enough for them too, but that was the one that coach Jindřich Trpišovský’s squad won, so they were worried about being eliminated by the end of the match.

In the end, however, it turned out well and the Czech fans can celebrate the two teams’ progression to the spring phase, albeit only in the European Conference League.

The two Prague S’s have advanced together after 22 long years! During this time, either only one advanced or none did either.

The reason for this is the European Conference League, which allowed Slavia to play the group stage and Sparta to be relegated thanks to their third place in the Europa League.
