Denzel Dumfries had the first chance of the match in the ninth minute, but his foot was caught by an opposing player in the corner of the net and the referee pointed to the spot after watching the replay. Memphis Depay took the ball and made no mistake.
In the 24th minute, the Lyon goalkeeper had another chance, but this time he just missed the right post. The Austrians tried to do something with the game, but it didn’t work in the final stages.
On the other hand, Depay had another great chance in the 42nd minute, but he shot over the bar from the small area. That was the last chance of the first half, and the Netherlands went into the box with a 1:0 lead.
Mathijs de Ligt opened the second half with a scoring chance, but Daniel Bachmann defused it. Six minutes later he was fishing the ball out of the net. Donyell Malen was not selfish in his raid and passed to Dumfries in front of the empty net, who had it easy.
Saša Kalajdžić had a header moments later, but the ball was knocked down for a corner by the Orange defence. In the 82nd minute, David Alaba tried his luck, but his nice shot from distance missed the back post by inches.
The Dutch were able to hold on to the end of the match and won 2-0.
