The Czech national team will face a tough battle at the start of the qualification, when they will challenge a strong Poland with Robert Lewandowski in Eden. However, the national team will have to do without our biggest support – Patrik Schick. Who can replace him?
On Friday, the national team will play the opening match of the Euro 2024 qualification. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý has called up a selection consisting of several newcomers, but also experienced mainstays such as Tomáš Vaclík or Tomáš Souček.
However, due to injury, the biggest offensive mainstay Patrik Schick dropped out of the nomination. This is definitely not a pleasant thing for coach Šilhavy.
He is probably already thinking about how to replace him in the team. What options are available to him?
Mojmír Chytil
It’s true that Mojmír Chytil has definitely proven himself in the national team. On his debut he scored a hat-trick for the Faroe Islands in front of the spectators at the Andras Stadium in Olomouc, which is unprecedented in the modern history of our national team.
It must be added that the team was depleted of personnel at the last meeting and many of its mainstays were missing. It is therefore very unlikely that Chytil will start in the starting line-up in this match as well, as the team has considerable strength in attack despite the absence of Schick. However, Chytil could definitely liven up the game from the bench.
Jan Kuchta
Coach Šilhavý tried this option especially during the summer Nations League matches. The predatory Kuchta certainly didn’t disappoint his confidence as he contributed to the win over Switzerland and the draw with Spain.
Now Kuchta has finally found his lost form in Sparta. He has already scored seven goals this spring and is riding a winning streak. Moreover, he could surprise the Polish defence and goalkeeper with his pressing.
Tomáš Čvančara and Jan Kuchta
Yes, this could be a possibility, albeit a very surprising one. After experimenting with the 3-4-2-1 formation, coach Šilhavý seems to have returned to the 4-2-3-1 formation for good. The Czech national team coach is very conservative in his approach to tactics, so we can hardly expect him to pull out a trump card in such an important match.
This Spartan duo has been shining in the spring, with both players showing great interplay. As mentioned, coach Šilhavy doesn’t like to go off the rails. For example, Tomas Cvancara has not played a minute in the senior national team.
Adam Hložek
Few would doubt that this great talent of Czech football will start in the starting line-up on Friday. But his position will probably not be at the top of the attack, even though that is where he most often plays for Leverkusen.
Šilhavý has already tried the 20-year-old Ivančice native on the wing several times, but he was not very comfortable there. However, due to the shortage of personnel on the wings, the coach probably has nothing else left.
Hložek will probably start with Černý on the wings and Jan Kuchta will complement them on the top. However, we will have to wait for official information on the lineup.
