The most trampled tournament in history! Which ATP stars are part of the China Open?
This tennis event has no competition in its category. The China Open in Beijing attracted practically the entire world’s top tennis players. Who will be missing and what do the players themselves have to say about the unprecedented competition?

This is neither a Grand Slam nor a Masters tournament. Nevertheless, the composition of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing corresponds to events of the highest level. Who all will be playing in China in the coming days?
Perhaps it would be easier to list the players from the elite tiers of the ATP rankings who have not come to Beijing. Of the top ten players of today, only Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz will be missing.
Chances for Alcaraz
The number one player in the tournament is Carlos Alcaraz. In Beijing he has a chance to reduce his deficit to the absent Djokovic. Still, his lot is a bit tricky. In his second match in the Chinese capital he may already meet Russian Khachanov, who triumphed a few days ago in Zhuhai at the ATP 250 tournament.
Also not far from the Spaniard in the China Open line-up is Denmark’s Holger Rune, who is eager to lift himself from the unusually poor results of recent months.
Other stars of the tournament
Among the other big names to feature in Beijing is the second of the recent winners. Germany’s Zverev was unbeaten in Chengdu and will be looking to confirm his form in the tough competition of the China Open.
Greece’s Tsitsipas and Russia’s Rublyov are definitely in that group. Andy Murray will be looking to build on his better times. The Brit dominated the whole event here in 2016.
Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, will make his first appearance in Beijing. He will follow up his final appearance at the US Open. And Djokovic, his only loser from the US Grand Slam, cannot face the Russian here.
Players’ reactions
It is Medvedev who sees this year’s China Open as the strongest “five-hundred” he has ever seen. Respect for the tournament’s cast is clearly shared by all the tennis players interviewed.
Finally..
The Chinese leg of the ATP Tour returns after a covid period with great brilliance. The tennis venues here have attracted some really great competition. Players have the opportunity to get a very valuable point injection and many of the best players are close to participating in the Tournament of Champions.
