Today Sparta Prague will play a match in Scotland against Rangers. The match will decide or give a hint who will play in the Europa League in the spring. What did coach Pavel Vrba say at the press conference before the match?
Sparta flew to Scotland after a recent setback at Slovácko, where they were awarded four goals and left in disgrace. Against Rangers, they must deliver a very different performance.
“Slovácko deservedly won. Maybe we will have a similar match to Slovácko. That can be an advantage for us. I hope we will learn from this. We have to get this game over with quickly. After fifteen rounds, we’ve lost two games. Of course, it’s not good that the last one turned out the way it did. But that’s the way it goes sometimes,” said coach Pavel Vrba at Wednesday’s press conference.
The coaching staff is aware that a defeat by more than two goals automatically puts Sparta in contention for the conference playoffs, which they would have had to fight for in their last game against Brondby, but the chances are not slim.
Sparta just need a draw and then a win at home against their Danish opponents. A win in Scotland would take it further, that is if Brondby doesn’t score against Lyon.
Coach Vrba’s team will have to be especially careful about the defensive part, which is currently troubling them. In the last three games, Florin Nita has pulled the ball out of the net nine times.
“You are right that we have scored a lot of goals in the last few games. On the other hand, we drew in Ostrava and won at home against Teplice. Of course, everything was wrong at Slovácko. That’s the reality,” Vrba added.
We can also expect changes in the lineup compared to Slovácko, almost certainly Lukáš Štetina, who had a bad league game, will not play.
“Of course the match will leave some traces. There will be changes, that’s for sure. Let’s be surprised what line-up we will have,” concluded the Sparta coach.
