The main event of the ongoing UFC 284 gala in Perth, in which the number one and two rankings across the weight classes measured their strength, has an unpleasant ending. In it, Islam Makhachev defeated featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski on points in a close fight.
But a day after the said tournament, Makhachev’s former opponent, New Zealander Dan Hooker, shocked the combat sports world. He accused the Dagestani of using banned techniques when dropping weight.
Specifically, it was alleged that he used an intravenous infusion to help the Russian fighter rehydrate after the difficult dehydration process between the weight loss and the fight itself. The problem for the Russian fighter could be the fact that this technique is banned in the UFC.
However, shortly after Hooker’s accusation caught the attention of the fight world, Makhachev’s co-manager Rizvan Magomedov decided to speak out. He came out with a public statement denying all the allegations.
“We all know that the accusations are completely out of line,” Magomedov told MMA Junkie.
Even during the weigh-ins, many noticed that Makhachev was having significant trouble making weight. In addition, viral pictures of Makhachev have been going viral on Twitter, showing the Dagestani with a sore on his left hand that looks like it is from a needle stick.
Naturally, fans have rushed in with much speculation. However, proving such an accusation will certainly not be easy.
