A historic day for English women’s football! More than 47,000 spectators came to the stadium for Arsenal’s London derby against Tottenham, in which the home team outclassed the visitors 4-0! And this is a new record for women’s English club football.

Arsenal players defeated Tottenham 4:0 in front of the largest ever crowd in the women’s top flight. But it’s not just the English league where women’s football is experiencing a decent rise.

Attendance records have also been broken in the Champions League and the European Women’s Championship. 47 367 spectators came to the Emirates Stadium to watch the London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham. The home team played great football from the start of the game.

Twenty-seven-year-old striker Bethany Mead got on the scoresheet in the fifth minute with a superb shot into the top right corner.

Arsenal then increased their lead before half-time. Dutch star Vivianne Miedema scored in the 44th minute.

The home side then added two more goals in the second half. Rafaelle took care of goal number 3, while Miedema enjoyed her second goal in the 68th minute and fourth overall.

After two matches won, the Arsenal players are now in first place in the Women’s Super League with 6 points. However, the 4:0 victory means something else for the Gunners.

No other club in the history of the women’s top flight has ever recorded eight clean sheets in a row, and a big thanks goes to goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.
